Sweet Chestnut trees their amazing patterned trunks. These were growing in Citou in the Languedoc region of France, one of my favourite places on earth. Here chestnuts are harvested there and used in many local dishes. This batik was based on photos I took there many moons ago. I used the traditional method of cracking the wax and dipping the whole batik in to a bath of dye which was a huge task with such a large batik.
